Study: Limiting temperature rise to two degrees Celsius requires “planned recession” - COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference Copenhagen 2009
According to The Telegraph, Kevin Anderson, director of the research body, suggests that in order to avoid going beyond the dangerous tipping point, the UK has to double the target to 70 percent by 2020. This would mean reducing the size of the economy through a “planned recession”, where “the building of new airports, petrol cars and dirty coal-fired power stations will have to be halted in the UK until new technology provides an alternative to burning fossil fuels,” The Telegraph reports.
