The Way a Free Trial Should Be

I signed up for Basecamp recently and got a 30 day free trial.  I had to provide my credit card number so that when the trial ran out they could bill me for the paid service.

My trial is almost up and I just got a reminder email saying “we will bill you soon. We’d love to have you stay with us, but if you don’t want to please cancel now”.

I think a lot of services skip this step, hoping to wring a few dollars out of users who forget to cancel.  It’s nice to see 37Signals doing things the right way.
